What is wrong with my Nikon FA?

My Nikon FA has always been wonderful for me; I’ve never had any problems with it. It’s the camera I use for all my school work in my photography major. After not touching it for almost two months (I’ve been shooting digital, and I’ve just been busy), I went to load it this morning and found that the shutter won’t fire. The spindle will turn to load film, but it won’t advance and the shutter release can not be pushed all the way down. The in-camera light meter isn’t functioning either and won’t give a reading. I have changed the battery to no avail. I am planning on taking it to my local camera repair store, but I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on what could be wrong with it now.
