Why does the hole in Jupiter persist?

Asked by socker (5points) July 28th, 2009

The recent object that collided with Jupiter caused a large black spot/hole. Why does this hole persist for so long, given the high wind speed of Jupiter’s atmosphere (approximately 100 m/s)?
