Today, while walking our dogs on a trail through the greenbelt, my husband and I spotted a deer on a side trail coming toward us. We stopped and looked at the deer, and she looked at us.
Suddenly, without even thinking about it, I sang “Do, a deer, a female deer.” My husband joined in with the harmony, and we sang the whole song while the deer watched us unblinking and unmoving, obviously listening.
Then, we turned and went back homeward on the trail. The deer never bounded away. It was just a perfect moment of confluence. I felt so uplifted afterwards. I am still smiling writing this.
