Plant shelving that could serve as a room divider: what am I talking about?

Asked by Jeruba (55848points) August 15th, 2009

Does such a thing exist, or have I just imagined it so vividly (because it ought to exist) that I think I’ve actually seen one?

I’m picturing open metal shelving, probably brass-toned or else of wrought iron, that installs floor-to-ceiling like a pole lamp. Maybe 4 shelves, let’s say about 3 feet wide and 6 or 8 inches deep. The idea would be to place a number of plants on the shelves, including hanging ones like pothos, to act as a sort of divider between two sections of a large L-shaped room. I want to narrow the opening a bit so it is more like two rooms, but without a solid wall. I thought a plant stand might work.

If you know what I’m talking about, what’s it called and where might I find it? If It doesn’t exist, well, I guess there’s always a folding screen.
