Is it pointless for me to pursue a world record in the game Centipede?

Long story short, I’m very good at the 1980 arcade game Centipede. Good enough that I believe, with more practice and time, I could have a world record.
On the one hand, I enjoy playing the game for fun, so I think If I was to play it with the intention of setting a record, it might loose some of it’s appeal to me.
On the other hand, how many people can really say they are among the best in the world at something? Do you think its worth it to try for this reason alone?
