Is an inflamed bruise anything to be concerned about?

I have a blue bruise from hitting my thigh on a nightstand thing. It’s very warm, tender, and as I said, discolored. I haven’t had frequent bruises since my days of athleticism and do not remember the “rules” about them.
Is there anything I should be doing to it?
