What could be causing my gums to be sensitive to brushing?

My gums have recently become very sensitive over a couple of my teeth (upper right side)...I’m afraid to say, I think it’s an infection. I especially notice it when I brush my teeth, though they don’t bother me all that much during the day or when I eat….they hurt only a little, and they’re a little itchy (which I notice when flossing). Anyone know what could be wrong?
