How are topic searches done here?

I want to make sure that I follow the guidelines for submitting questions. It seems that it is impolite or maybe just annoying, I am not sure on that point yet, to ask a question that has been talked out. For example: If I wanted to ask about a commercial about ED and the specific question were something along the lines of “What does ED treatment have to do with a couple holding hands in separate bathtubs (he in one, she in the other) on the beach?” how would I verify that this is a new question?
