Why is it so easy to be addicted to the internet?

Internet is such a self destructive tool for me. Sometimes i would eat while i am surfing on the internet and I end up just eating alot more than I like and i just feel so awful about myself. Why can’t they create something that is useful and is not addictive at the same time? or is it the whole point, to create products to make you addicted to it.
