How do you restart a Vaio Windows Vista Business program with corrupt file?

Asked by DarlingRhadamanthus (11273points) October 25th, 2009

I need help…I hope someone out there can help this non-techo person…with simple terms…..?

I’ve had a lot of probs with Vista Business on Vaio laptop since the beginning. Anyway, I noticed for the last week that I would be browsing sites and the cursor would get stuck and just sit there. I would have to re-boot and this continued to go on. Yesterday, it was happening every fifteen minutes. I tried to find solutions and nothing was working so decided to go back to a previous date and “System Restore”. It said that it could not restore it..here is what it said:

Root cause found:
Boot critical file: c:\windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe is corrupt.
Repair action: file repair
Result: failed. Error code 0×2

Also, it said that a “System Restore” Failed Error Code 0×17 and System File Integrity Check and repair failed Error Code 0×2.

Fine. It said that it could not restart my computer automatically. So, I clicked finish and it shut down my computer. I rebooted and it brought me back to the same message. Before I could NOT get my Windows Vaio Explorer Page up and enter. Now, it is not even letting me get in at all——my Windows Vaio Log in page is gone. It keeps sending me to this System Recovery page which is a blue box on a black background.

When I tried another option on the menu it gave me these “System Recovery Options”—-Startup Repair (that has a little checkmark on it), System Restore (that didn’t work), Windows Complete Restore (what is this? Would I lose my files if I did this? Have no clue?) Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool (Check your computer for memory hardware errors——we know the problem, right? The corrupted file (whatever that is) and don’t need this, right?) Command Prompt and Vaio Recovery Utility (What is this? Does anyone know? Can I use this to save my stuff? If so, I still need to get back on Explorer and not have a black page.) This is all that I am able to access.

Can I just get rid of that corrupted file? If I can’t even get back into Explorer or my main page…how do I do that?

Any, any, any….information would be most appreciated….and remember, I am not techno-literate.

I have a lot of graphics and don’t want to lose my files. Is there anyway that I can fix it myself? Did my hard drive just crash?
Can you explain what a “corrupt file” is and how I might have gotten it? (Gawd, I swear, I feel fairly stupid here. I would give up all my knowledge of the Romantic Poets for some techno-knowledge at the moment.)

Any information would be most appreciated….truly….madly..deeply.

aaaaaaarggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (me in frustration.)
