Would I be able to "jump-start" my rice cooker by pre-heating the water on the stove?

I love my rice cooker, but it seems like it takes significantly longer to prepare rice on it than by boiling water on the stove. Would I be able to heat up the water on the stove first, then add it to the rice in order to shorten things?
