Does anyone have a recipe for some sort of butternut squash sauce for pasta?

I’m having a dinner party tomorrow, and the main meal is a milk-braised pork shoulder over large, essentially polenta, squares. There will likely be at least one vegetarian, so I’m trying to find the recipe for some sort of “sauce” like dish featuring butternut squash and sage, which is a classic pairing, but will feel more like a main entree rather than a side dish, especially if poured over the polenta.

Thoughts? Should I puree the butternut squash, or would that be too soupy? Roast vs. steaming the squash? I’m really more of a meat person, but I hate stiffing the vegetarians at a dinner party.
