I am getting a new computer - what's the best way to transfer data from this one to my new one?

I currently have a MacBook and should be receiving my MacBook Pro soon. I know they make some USB but I have an external so I don’t know if it’s worth it to spend the extra money on their USB. Any suggestions on how to go about moving over over 2,000 songs and some random files without having to do it in small segments? Would it just be easier to spend the 20 bucks?
