What are some benefits of these two job interests I have?

Friday at school we had our career day and what really interested me was the Social Worker, and the EMT (emergency medical technician).
So I was wondeing what are your opinions on these two jobs? Do you see any benefits in either job that would make you decide one over the other? Also do you have any advice on how I should go about researching these two careers?
Any advice would help out.
