Does it really take that long for a police officer to run your information?

Asked by El_Cadejo (34610points) December 2nd, 2009

A couple of days ago i was pulled over. Officer took my license registration and insurance as usual and then went back to the car to go check everything out “real quick” as he put it. 28 min later he got out of his car and returned. This was the longest ive ever had to wait, but in any other experiences with cops its taken an extremely long time for them to run my info.

I cant understand how it can take them that long. I realize they need to check and see if everything is valid and if there are possibly any warrants out on me, and I can understand this if it were say 20–30 years ago, but in the age of technology we’re in now i imagine a cop only has to type my license number into his computer and BAM there’s all my info in seconds. So what is it? Are they really doing stuff in all that time theyre making you wait or are they just screwing with you?

Any flutherite cops care to share?
