Why is lettuce used more often than spinach?

Asked by jeffgoldblumsprivatefacilities (20019points) December 16th, 2009

A majority of the time lettuce is used in salads and other foods more often than spinach. When it comes to nutritional value, spinach wins hands-down. When eating a salad made of lettuce, you’re likely to get one of the really chunky pieces that are terrible, but not with spinach. So why is lettuce so prevalent? Is it because of taste (I prefer the taste of spinach to lettuce) or cost? What do you think?
