Can you help me find some useful Wordpress plugins?

There are two specific plugins I’d ideally like to have for an online story on Wordpress. This is kind of technical but here goes…

1. Something that lets you “turn the page” instantly like a book. Right now, the story is divided up into individual Wordpress pages. You click “Next” to go to the next page, similar to how you read through longer articles on the New York Times website. I think dividing up the story into pages works better than just having each chapter as a long scroll of text. However, waiting for the next page to load can be slow on some connections.

So, what I’d like is something similar to a “show/hide” tag, or perhaps like the “Show more” on Twitter—something that, when clicked on, loads more content instantly without having to navigate to a whole new webpage. However, I’d also like it to hide the existing content on the page at the same time it displays the new content.

(alternatively, is there anything you can do with a href # tags?)

2. Something that displays a little text-filled bubble when you scroll over (or click on) a highlighted word. I know I’ve seen stuff like this before. The idea is sort of like a footnote that floats over the footnote-d word.
