Camping tips needed for Australia?

Coming october and november I am going camping in Australia with my wife and 2 children (aged 2 and 4).

So far our only plan is to fly to Brisbane, buy a car there (and camping supplies) and drive up to the White Sundays and then down to Sydney. So not too big a trip for 2 months (we are not planning to go much further north of south or far inlands.

Do any of you have some must see places along the way, or invaluable tips we could use while camping (things to take with you, or maybe even suggestions for gear).

And oh, we are not planning on going hiking. Mainly stay in 1 place for a while, and then move on.
