How do I influence what appears about me on Google listings?

Asked by writemyselfaletter (123points) January 21st, 2010

In 2003, I was divorced. The county in which the divorce took place decided about a year ago to put ALL of their records online. As a result, simply by typing in my name on Google (no location or other qualifying info), my divorce record appears in the top 3 items of the first google page. If you click on the listing, you get 12 pages of “stuff”. Bottom line, unless you look carefully, it appears that I am not divorced. Further, it appears that I am involved in an enormous ongoing divorce hassle (due to minor motions that I initiated after the divorce was granted). My first thought is to address the IT director for the county. Another course is to spend about $5,000 with a service that manipulates Google listings in a way that will drive my listing back to the fifth or sixth page of listings. Any suggestions?
