How do I get a shotgun in Halo 3 for Xbox 360?

I (or every Halo 3 gamer) always have this certain gun with a handgun. While i was playing matchmaking the other day, I picked up a shotgun. It helped me a lot! Is there any code or cheat to get a shotgun?
