Does dry shampoo really work?

I’ve been seeing a lot of reviews online for dry shampoo. It comes in a can, and you basically spray it in your hair. I guess this is for the people that don’t wash their hair everyday or something?
Do any of you have any experience with this?
I’ve got a friend that lives on a farm now with her new husband, and I thought maybe this might be a nice idea to send her a bottle or two. :P (You know, its the small luxuries in life, yadda yadda yadda)
