I have 2 questions regarding making a movie for my mother using vhs movies?

Ok so for mother’s day I want to make a video for my mom including pictures and videos of all of us kids growing up. She loves to watch old movies and look at pictures and I just know she’d love this.

So first question – I know there are ways to turn old vhs videos into dvds but can I put the vhs on my computer and then edit it? Otherwise she’s going to have 9 hours of Christmas videos when I want to do kind of a ‘through the years’ look. I’ve got a pc and a mac to make this on, but I prefer the Imovie on mac because I’m familiar with it and it’s easier for me.

My second question is suggestions of music I can use. I want music that would compliment funny times, growing up, and how appreciative we are of her. I really can’t think of any that are a mother’s love, most songs are about father children love such as Butterfly Kisses, My Little Girl, and Dance with My Father,.. These songs can be any genre.

(and I know, I’m totally aware that it’s Mother’s Day today but I just got back from college yesterday and I have had this idea in mind for a while without the materials/time until now)
