What is the cheapest (working) solution to split an HDMI signal into and HDMI and component signal?

I need to take an HDMI signal from my xbox and split it to HDMI (my tv) and component (my pvr) I found a passive HDMI splitter for $7, but that doesn’t seem to work all the time and I found an HDMI to component cable for $15.
