Have you ever seen those NOTW® stickers on the backs of family wagons and SUVs? Do you know what it stands for? Have you ever noticed the inherent irony of it?

I’ve seen it for years but didn’t know what it was. That NOTW® sticker that so many SUVs and family wagons like to have on the back window. I knew it was a certain subculture of Christianity because I could see the stylized cross symbolism in the way the logo looks, and the fact it’s always on SUVs.

Recently I learned it means “Not Of This World”.

But ever notice the giant ” ® ” That follows it?

Ever notice the irony in that? That something “not of this world” has to be registered in the U.S. Trademark Office?

Have you ever seen any other commonly displayed symbols or stickers with inherent irony?

here’s the sticker: http://runwithgod.typepad.com/romans12/images/2008/02/20/notw_edgy_150.jpg
