How to back up my iPod contents before changing my computer?

My computer is quite outdated and works slowly, so I plan to buy a new one. But I wonder if my iPod contents will still exist after the reinstallation of iTunes in my new computer. And should I download the newest iTunes?
Will the contents in iPod disppear after synching it with my new computer? I really don’t know what to do next?
Appreciate your help!
PS: My iPod is CLASSIC 120G…..
