What portion of your internet relationships fade away?

I’ve entered into a lot of fairly serious internet correspondences over the years. Very few of them last more than a few months. We seem to get very intense at first and then it slowly drops off, as if we’ve said all we had to say to each other. Then they stop altogether. I wonder how common this experience is.

What is your experience? Do you enter into these kinds of correspondences? How long do they tend to last? Is there a pattern in terms of the intensity of the correspondence? How do you account for this pattern?
