Can you sustain conflicting positions on issues?

I’m listening to a program on NPR about Johnny Cash, and they mentioned that throughout the Vietnam War, he both protested the war and entertained the troops in Vietnam. The narrator remarked that it was remarkable that he could sustain these two conflicting viewpoints.

Do you believe it’s possible to hold conflicting views on a subject, or do you believe people must only hold opinions on one side of an issue? Do you have an opinion on a subject that takes into accounts different sides of an issue?
