If you were an obnoxious teenager, how are you as an adult?

The other day I was in a library, working quietly at a desk, when a bunch of teenagers loudly came in and rudely demanded the librarian tell them where the water fountain is located. The librarian simply pointed them in the direction and ignored their behavior. Moments later, the pack was wandering around causing more loud distractions. Knowing nothing could be done about stopping them, I packed up my stuff and moved.

With school back in session, I expect to see more teens behaving badly – especially on public transit once the school day ends. Seeing these teens, I wonder what will happen to them as adults, if they will mature and become respectable human beings or continue to behave obnoxiously.

To me, an obnoxious teenager is someone who:

- talks loudly in a library just so everyone pays attention to them,
– acts like the world owes them everything,
– shows no consideration for others,
– uses their cell phone rudely on public transit,
– back talks adults,
– does not display any manners,
– etc. etc. etc.

I’m not talking about the teens that commit crimes or have had interactions with juvenile corrections, or the ones with serious issues who need professional help. Instead, I’m referring to the average teenager who acts obnoxiously.
