What are some good resources for Student Aid?

My GF is looking into student loans and the comparison page on her institution’s webpage is woefully anemic. Any good, non-biased sites for comparison or personal accounts of good lenders? Any traps to watch out for?

The College Board has a pretty nice guideline as to what to look for when getting college loans here One thing to beware of is to make sure if its a fixed-rate loan or an adjustable loan. Personally i think fixed rate government loans are better.

Bankrate has a decent tool to compare the rates of different student loans in your are

I Stumbled across this site about two weeks ago. It’s a blog about student loans, financing, college, etc. She may find her answer here Student Loan Resources. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, just use the search feature. That’s what we did to find some articles for my nephew.

Right now I’m actually a representative for http://www.TuitionBids.com , a site that lets you compare loan offers from six different lenders. It’s completely non-biased, the way it works is the applicant (in this case your GF) puts in her info and then the lenders will submit quotes based on how bad they want to offer her a loan. They also have a ton of other resources on the site that can help out too, including a Gap Calculator that works based on your GF’s specific academic institution.
That’s the site I know of that’s great for loan comparisons… Other than that there’s always FAFSA, which will give her, her EFC and then lets her become eligible for government loans.
Traps can be tough. Definitely make sure your GF knows what she’s looking for when she’s going out there private loan hunting. Again, there’s tons of resources for research (Tuition Bids has some, too) but one of the best ways to avoid hassle in the loan process is to do research beforehand so she can figure out what she wants and then she won’t be easily swayed.
Hope this helps you out; Good luck!
