The way I was able to lose 20lbs and maintain at my current weight is to follow a healthy eating plan and to really adhere to portion control. I highly recommend following an eating plan that the American Diabeties Association supports. Low glycemic eating plan is healthy, safe, flexible and do-able for a lifetime.
I do not like the term “diet” because it implies a temporary fix with long term expecations. I prefer eating plan or eating lifestyle.
Also important is exercise. Do not fall into the trap of spot training. A mixture of cardio using a target heart rate monitor and weight training that involves program restructuring every 6–8 weeks.
Regarding a cardio workout. Learn how to use a heart rate monitor. Not all cardio workouts have to be pushed to the max. If you research how athletes train in the off-season you will learn many do not go balls to the wall all the time.
In many cases working within 60% of your target heart rate will burn more fat then if you worked out in the 80–92% range. Once you are in the 80–92% area you are using anabolic energy which in turn burns muscle for energy.
Good luck…oh and don’t fall for muscle weighs more then fat. 1lb is 1lb regardless of the material…
