What is alza 36?

Asked by daytonamisticrip (4859points) October 15th, 2010

My cat brought my mom a plastic zipper bag with pills that say alza 36. I suspect that it’s my brothers. I found out on goggle It’s called concerta. But I couldn’t find out anything else. What are the risks, dangers, side effects, and any permanent effects it can have? What does it do when you take it? How much does it cost? Could he get it at cvs pharmacy or something? What is it suppose to be used for?

Concerta is an ADHD medication.

See the medication guide.

It is Methylphenidate (the most famous brand would be Ritalin). It is mainly used to treat ADHD but is also used to treat a few other things. It is often abused because is similar to cocaine and the amphetamines. In the US it’s a schedule 2 drug (the same class as morphine for example) so you’d need a prescription to get it. Given that its in a doggy bag I suspect he did not get it from a pharmacy.
