Appearance of the Japanese school girl uniform, US navy inspired or not?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) October 16th, 2010

Something that always amazed me was how come most Japanese school girl uniforms look awfully like a some feminine version of the US navy ”Crackerjack” uniform? Did this come about from WWII when I suspect the US navy was a dominant present in Japan while Uncle Sam cowed the Red Sun to Americanize it, and seeing how Japanese society is suppose to have been more the warrior and honor class, the Crackerjack was seen as a mantel of power? Or was it just a coincidence that the uniform ended up looking a lot like the US nave designed it?
