What can you expect to pay for a GOOD vacuum cleaner?

I think it’s a new question…and this was inspired by a two year old question about a Dyson. After I read it again, I went looking online for Dysons…and they’re talking $300 – $400 at Sears. We had a salesman who came around a few months ago with a whoopy vacuum that was $2,500..(then, the longer he had to talk…. $2000, then $1500) I didn’t buy but kept him hanging, and hey…got the world vacuumed out of my rug and furniture as a demo! Should I just call the sales reps back once a month, or buy a GOOD vacuum? What should I expect to pay?
