Childhood pageants pro or con?

Asked by Hypocrisy_Central (26879points) December 29th, 2010

OK, this is probably one of those issues you are either for it or against it, maybe even more than having little kids duke it out in the boxing ring. I am curious what the Jellies think of child beauty pageants? I have to admit I find it strange when grown women slather on the war paint to go out but to doll up kids with all the mascara, eye shadow and such seems even more strange, but that is just me. Looking close at it I can see positives and negatives in it. Two positives to take note of; it might give the girls a focus that will keep them from getting into trouble with gangs or other negative things; It is often a family affair that will keep the daughter and mother close growing up. The bad, it may show the girl that when away from the pageant and not all dolled up that she is not pretty or even important, kind of like a super hero out of costume; It could give the child a swollen head that she and her pageantry is the most important thing, making her more special than all her friends or siblings. Which side of the fence do you see yourself most on, the pro or the con and why are you there?
