What is the difference between a natural pearl and a cultured pearl?

A cultured pearl is a pearl created by a pearl farmer under controlled conditions.

As @aubepine said. x-rays will show the type of “seed” material used, which in cultured pearls is a regular shape as opposide to a random shape of naturally-occurring pearls.
