Is it still true that they are not checking monitors for radiation in CA?

Asked by skfinkel (13537points) March 16th, 2011

This was the statement as of yesterday. Is this still the policy of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission? Rather ostridge-like? http://www.mercurynews.com/science/ci_17614609?nclick_check=1

That is at the state level, (and it is the Public Health Department) not the Federal NRC level. There are actively monitored stations in California maintained by the Air Resources Board, a different agency.

A local San Francisco television news cast had a story Monday night on the monitoring station in downtown San Francisco. We’re not being ostriches.

Glad to hear it!

The amount of radiation expoed to CA from Japans reactors, even if worst case scenario, is negligible. You get more radiation from standing in a walmart in front of their bananas (thats not a joke either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_equivalent_dose)
