Is there any difference between spearmint and Kentucky Colonel mint?

Asked by MyNewtBoobs (19059points) April 6th, 2011

Google isn’t telling me. I just bought Kentucky Colonel Mint – that’s the actual name on the plant tag, so it makes me think there’s a difference.

Kentucky Colonel Mint is mentha spicata, which is spearmint. There are a number of mentha species, some of which get spearmint, and some get called peppermint.
