The upload box (on my Mac Computer) is missing the "Desktop" button?

Asked by pcmonkey (427points) June 12th, 2011

You know that if you have a Mac computer and you want to upload something such as a picture, it has that little upload pop-up thing. Well you know on the side where you click “Desktop, Aplications, Documents, etc.”? Well my Desktop button is missing. I heard a little “Swoosh” sound and POOF! It was gone! How do I get it back?

Look in “Trash” on the lower right.

In the Finder go to Finder—> Preferences—> Sidebar.. Check Desktop.

@pcmonkey where have you looked already for it, you can access in more than one place as long as you didn’t accidently delete it then empty your trash. If you did, then if you have Time Machine you can go back before you deleted the object in question.

They didn’t delete the folder, just a symbolic link. Nothing was moved to the trash.

The side bar is customizable… You can add and remove “shortcuts” however you wish. Sounds like you accidentally removed the desktop shortcut by dragging it off the sidebar.

To get it back, go to your user folder (most likely it’s your name), then click and drag the desktop folder into the sidebar.
