Doug Hutchison, 51, and Courtney Stodden, 16, their union is legal, why are so many people annoyed with it?

It seems to be a disingenuous criterion when it comes to teens. I have heard psychologist say that at 16 Courtney’s frontal lobe has not fully developed leaving her incapable of sustaining a long-term committed relationship. That she will be bored and want another pursuit or union 6 months after the wedding. That her reasoning skills are still in development, and not complete.

How can she be the person who cannot really comprehend or understand her emotions to be in a relationship of her choosing, even with someone much older, but be fully competent and knowing what she is doing if she commits a vicious or heinous crime(s)? By the buzz in the media, no one wants to give her credit as an adult, but they would want to try her as an adult if she did a string of carjacking, a murder for money, kidnap for ransom, etc. Does crime all of a sudden makes the young woman who professionals say does not have a full functioning mature mind mature just like that to fully comprehend the gravity of the crime(s)? I cannot see how that works.

The union was legal, and in fact would be legal in 39 states. So why is everyone so pissed because they followed the law? They want to say she is a gold digger because he is in Hollywood, they want to call him some pervert, even though he is not lurking around high school cheerleading practice trying to get at any 16yr young woman, but one he has gotten to know, or it is all some stunt. What is it about American society that just cannot step aide and let couples like that be happy?
