Why am I suddenly hiccuping so much?

I very rarely get hiccups. Or, that was the case until a few months ago. Now I get them about 3 times a week, usually just as I am about to fall asleep. One night during vacation I had them while asleep. My 5 y/o finally got up to give me a drink of water so she could get some sleep.
Any ideas?
