How to set association with Windows Vista?

Asked by AshlynM (10684points) September 11th, 2011

My D drive (the dvd/cd drive) gives me an error that says this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations control panel. I can’t play my cd without performing this action.

Problem is I don’t know what I’m looking for when creating an association. Can someone provide a step by step guide on how to fix this error? Thanks.

You need to right click the file itself, hover over “open with…” Click choose default program and the program you need.

There is no open with option.

@AshlynM Did you actully go into the CD, and not jsut click on the drive? You need to select one of the actual files.

Ah, this is a tricky one, it happens from time to time due to stupid virus infections. I’m not sure how to really “fix” this, but as a trick to work around it, hit Windows+R, type “explorer D:\”, and hit Enter.

Or right click the drive and hit explore. By the way @tlm
