Do you believe in ghosts [read details before answering]?

Asked by Hibernate (9091points) October 16th, 2011

I’m not talking about real ghosts here. I’m talking about those you loved/harmed/harassed/befriended/enjoy .. even killed [maybe an animal/pet you killed by a tragic mistake… exclude real murder done on purpose here please]. And not as a conscience either.
Do you carry them with you?
Do they ever leave you?

Yes.

I think we carry the ghosts around with us of everyone we have loved or who loved us, for better or worse.

There’s a Bruce Springsteen line ”...There were ghosts in the eyes of all the boys you sent away…”.

Um, you mean memories?

beccagolling's avatar

Yes, I do. They are always with me. I am always thinking of them.

I think you are referring to skeletons in your closet

Hibernate's avatar

@Blackberry you can say taht too but not exactly that word to fully describe it.
@SpatzieLover no. I mean ghosts. Skeletons in the closet usually refer to bad things one did.

Sound like skeletons to me…Not ghosts.

So according to you if I loved someone I have skeletons in my closet.
... if I was harassed by someone again I have skeletons.

And I wasn’t referring to these. Leave it be.

@Hibernate What else would would it be? Let me guess, something supernatural?

I believe very much in that which you describe, although I don’t know if it would be called a ghost. Not skeletons either, unless your details suggest that some things about a person nobody knows but themselves.

Memories, incidents that imprint themselves in your brain due to the impact they had, I guess. It’s real.

I no longer know what you mean by ghosts, then. I only believe in ghosts for fun, you know? Like I convince myself they’re around or I’ve felt them. Who knows? Maybe there are dimensions where some kind of energies exist.

You guys should blame the English vocabulary for having the same word describing so many things then :)

ghost

4. ( sometimes initial capital letter ) a spiritual being.

5.the principle of life; soul; spirit.

I see no mention that describes one’s memories.

Now where exactly did I say MEMORIES? I asked you once to let it be .. seems I was talking to myself.

Oh and you should consider there is more to it than Mirriam-Webster or similar dictionaries.
There’s always urbandictionary.com [not that I inspired there] but words these day have other meanings then the dictionary definitions. Just a fact.

@Hibernate It seems even you don’t know what you’re looking for. Unless there’s a way for you to rephrase your details, it’s only one thing.

I do know what I want from you guys to reply. It seems you guys don’t want to see it with my eyes or from my point of view. I do not understand it though; some of you don’t even try it. So if you don’t bother to do it at least let those who try to reply. Thank you.

I think emotional ghosts never really go away. Some people feel them more but whether or not they “haunt” you, they’re there and I don’t think they plan on going away. It’s like every thing we do in life, and I mean EVERYTHING, leaves a ripple in time. Like when a tree is cut down and you can see the rings inside it’s trunk. Everything that’s ever been done, every breath that’s taken, every word that’s said is there and it will stay there forever. Whether or not we realize we carry the ghost/memory, they are there, inside us and inside the universe forever.

Oh yes, I carry with me the ghost of a friend whom I did not kill, but rather, neglected to make up with after an argument before he suddenly died. * Sigh *

Yes I do believe that ghost exist, aproxamatly two weeks after my Father passed away he granted me a visit in my most vulnerable moments, my mourning of him, I had just returned home from work, I showered, had a bite to eat, then crawled into bed, as I tried to fall asleep, I began to weep just thinking of him, then as I layed on my left side, suddenly my right shoulder became very cold, it caught my attention and just as I thought about covering up, my thick and heavy blanket was pulled over my shoulder, in that moment once that happened, I wasn’t alone. Thank you Father R.I.P.
