Does a stronger immune system influence scent?

Asked by Eggie (5921points) February 18th, 2012

I am referring to the sexual smell of males to attract females. If a man has a very strong immune system will that influence a sexier smell?

From this article in Psychology Today it appears as though it does influence us. Although I’m not sure you could say it’s a sexier smell. It’s more so an indicator to us that a particular man is strong and has good genes that will help resist diseases and therefore is the best mate.

Probably, but I’m not aware of any research to back that up.

I just confirmed with my psych professor that we are going to find men with a stronger immune system more attractive. It’s all about pheromones
