In Mildred Pierce, why was the daughter Veda so full of contempt for her mother, Mildred Pierce?

I recently saw the HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce, starring Kate Winslet. I was hoping that by the fifth episode they would explain why the daughter, Veda, had such contempt for the mother. It was not clear to me, because I couldn’t see anything specific that the mother did. The mother was always attentive and kind to Veda, but Veda treated the mother like dirt.
Do you know why the daughter Veda hated her mother so in Mildred Pierce?
