How many stamps do I need to send these items?

Asked by tianalovesyou (711points) August 16th, 2012

I want to send a postcard and a square letter to Honolulu, Hawaii from California. I’ve never really mailed anything before so I have no idea how many stamps I need.

You only need one stamp for each item. But they have to be the right denomination. If you go to a post office or many stores, and ask for one first class letter stamp and one postcard stamp. they will sell you the proper denomination. I recommend you go to a post office, though. That’s an experience everyone should have at least once in their lives. And seeing as how you’ve made it this far without ever doing that, I have a feeling that the post office may also go the way of the dodo in the not too distant future.

Asking “how many stamps” is exactly like asking “how many coins does this cost?” It all depends on what the individual coins are worth.

I bought a thousand stamps for ten dollars. They were one-cent stamps. It would take 45 of those to mail a first-class letter. Much easier to use just one first-class stamp.

Cost of sending a first class letter in a square envelop anywhere will depend on both weight and destination.
