The researcher is usually a specialist in one disease only, or even a subset of one disease.

Breast, pancreatic, skin, colon, prostate, blood cancers, for example.

Is there such a person…? There is such specialization required to succeed in the biomedical field and obtain the necessary funding; I really was not aware that people could be “all purpose” disease researchers… A general name for a cancer researcher is an oncologist.

My oncologists do not do research, but provide treatment and encourage their patients to enter double-blind studies supervised by someone else.

A person who finds diseases may be called an epidemiologist. Find and cure diseases could be an infectious disease specialist.

Maybe not very helpful but “Medical Researcher” sounds pretty fancy to me!
