How can I speed up an audio file on an iPod?

I know that you can speed up an audiobook on an ipod. Is it possible to do this (easily) on an iphone/ipod for regular audio files?

Something that I always thought that iTunes should have that it got rid of when Apple took over the private project that eventually became iTunes (SoundJam——which incidentally was the best Mac mp3 player ever built!) was the track speed selector. Oh well….
