Have you priced an AR-15 lately?

Asked by josie (30934points) March 29th, 2013

I just bought another one, figuring there is a possibility (not likely but you never know) that soon enough I won’t be able to get one, at least on the legal market.

They have gotten really expensive!

Is this an example of the forces of supply and demand?

Yes. Prices go up when people are afraid things will be banned. Sellers know they can get more money for those items. It’s happened before. I know because I had a friend who was a gunsmith. He had 2 Ar-15s.

It really isn’t a supply and demand thing, since at present the supply is still there. It is more of a fear and extort thing.

Nothing sells products like fear.

The NRA really has stirred up the gullible rubes again. They did it in 2008–2009. They did it when Clinton was president.

I’ve been following NRA hysteria campaigns for many years.

15 years ago people were telling me they “had” to buy guns before the Feds outlawed them.

Yesterday a guy told me Russian UN soldiers were confiscating weapons at road blocks in Tennessee. I am not kidding. He was not kidding.

^ Us gullible rubes are always a target I guess.

^ I know you aren’t overly-sensitive, I felt free to make the pointed observation.

I see ammo is on the shelves again. There was a lot of panicky hoarding after Newtown.

That’s funny, I overheard some gun enthusiasts at work today: apparently there’s a sale on AR 15s at a store on a marine base nearby. They rushed over there after work to get them.
Apparently they are usually around $1500, although they were getting them for $850.

One of the guys also said, “We gotta go get that shit before it’s banned…”. The answers above make sense lol.
