Does your CV get throw in the trash in your country?

I was amazed to learn recently, that it is illegal in Spain for a company to take a CV off of you when you go to hand one in looking for work.

Because of the 1999 Data Protection law, companies are not allowed by law to store your details, including those of a CV.

People are walking round all over town, handing CVs over to receptionists, who then hand them on to the director, who then throws them in the trash due to Data Protection laws.

Here in Spain, if you want a company to be legally allowed to take your CV and store it for future use, you have to include a clause at the bottom of the CV, stating that you are authorizing the establishment to store your details, and that you consent to them being used for employment selection.

The thing is, no one knows about this, and everyone is out there handing out CVs, wasting their time.

Does the Data Protection Act have the same effect where you are ?

BQ: What do you think about making it illegal to hand out CVs in an economic crisis?
