What are other movies like 1998 St. Ives?

Asked by InkyAnn (2441points) April 3rd, 2013

I’ll admit I’m cheesy , I love those historical romance novels that take place in the early 1800’s or before. Particularly in England or Scotland or France. St. Ives is the only movie I have found so far that is just like the books. The drama, love story and a decent helping of sarcastic/under the breath humor. Do you guys know any other movies like this one?

Have you seen Oscar and Lucinda? One of my favorite modern movies.

I hope you enjoy the movie. Let me know what you think about it after you watch. Ralph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett at their finest.

I’ve read the novel and seen the movie. They’re quite good and the novel was recognized for its literary merit. I must say, however, it was a bit ‘twichy’ for my taste.

I Know Where I’m Going! takes place in the 40s, but a lovely, more romantic film with a Scottish setting you’ll never find. I guarantee.

A young, ambitious and stubborn middle-class English woman, determined to move forward since her childhood, announces to her father that she is going to marry a wealthy middle-aged industrialist in Kiloran island, in the Hebrides Islands, Scotland. She travels from Manchester to the island of Mull, where she and a naval officer, on his way home, are stranded due to bad weather. As the days go by, they fall madly in love with each other.
